Its human nature to push boundaries. To go where no man has ever gone before. As it persists as one of the most iconic events in the history of the sport. Eliud Kipchoge emerged as the greatest marathon runner of all-time. His level of motivation, mental and physical discipline and consistency is unrivalled.
Under the long-term guidance of a coach, mentor and friend Patrick Sang, the 34-year-old world-class marathoner Eliud Kipchoge ran 42 kilometres in 1 hour 59 minutes and 40.2 seconds during the INEOS 1:59 Challenge at Prater Park in Vienna, Austria on October 12, 2019.
It was the first time known to history records that a human had run the marathon in under two hours. Before Kipchoge started his race he had uttered that he is the first man and that he wanted to inspire a generation
"I am the first man - I want to inspire many people, that no human is limited," said the history-making Kipchoge.
"I don't know where the limits are, but I would like to go there," he wrote.
It didn’t take long for Kipchoge to fulfil what he had promised. After 1 hour 59 minutes and 40.2 seconds of breaking the record, every Kenyan and many around the globe intonated Mr Kipchoge’s catchy feel-good phrase.
“no human is limited.”
Kipchoge's victory in the Austrian capital showed the world that when you focus on your goal, when you work hard and when you believe in yourself, anything is possible.
