Maptra Matatu Sacco has refuted claims that the Nissan matatu which killed six people in Muumandu, Machakos was overloaded.

In a press briefing on, the Sacco chairman Austin Mutava said they have disciplined workers and it has no reputation of causing accidents.

"We want to clarify that the said matatu was not overloading. We have rules that are followed to the latter by our workers who are disciplined," said Mutava on Thursday. 

The Sacco chairman who was flanked by his Umowa counterpart Steve Mutuku said he personally visited the scene after the accident and confirmed that there no excess passengers had been on board.

 "I can say for sure our Sacco is the most disciplined in lower Eastern," he said. 

On Wednesday night, six people lost their lives while twelve others sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and rolled in Muumandu

According to Machakos emergency service director, the driver of the vehicle was speeding and had carried excess passengers.

Those who were injured are recuperating in Machakos Level Five Hospital.

Bodies of the six who perished were preserved in the same hospital mortuary.
