Tottenham has moved swiftly to beat Premier League rivals, Manchester United, in securing the signature of Gedson Fernandes from Portugal based team, Benfica.

Through a tweet this Wednesday, Tottenham has confirmed signing the midfielder for a deal that will him play for the London based club for at least 28 months, and if there will be a need, they can buy him permanently.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement for the 18-month loan of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica with an option to make the transfer permanent," Tottenham tweeted.

Manchester United was another European team that closely monitored the player.

The arrival of Gedson Fernandes to Tottenham is a blow to the Kenyan midfielder who is already struggling to get playing time under Jose Mourinho.

After French professional footballer Moussa Sissoko sustained a long term injury, it was expected that Wanyama will get playing time.

This seems not possible after Mourinho decided to buy another midfielder.

On Tuesday he was asked by reporters about Wanyama's situation at the club after he failed to include him in the lineup in an FA match against Middlesbrough, where said he is still a Tottenham player.

"He’s our player. If he wants to leave or not, he didn't tell me, we didn't discuss," he said. "We are calm about it. Good professional. That’s it," said Mourinho as quoted by Football London.
