Outspoken former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has yet again doubted ability of Western leaders to put a formidable fight in presidential polls.
Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula have expressed interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, a move Khalwale says will flop.
And on Wednesday in Karen, Khalwale said the two will be on ballot but will lose badly to Deputy President William Ruto, who is at pole position to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The former Ikolomani MP urged the Luhya community to support Dr Ruto to reduce chances of being out of government for yet another five years.
"I am right that in 2022, Mudavadi and Wetangula will run but will not win. We shall work with someone who shall win. We cannot be out of government for years because our elder brother has miscalculated," he said.
"Ruto is a clear front runner who is going to win. We said Uhuru and Ruto cannot win but our prediction didn't work. We cannot gamble this time because Raila will lose and have a handshake with Ruto. We cannot be abandoned this time
In 2013, Mudavadi ran in the polls but finished third behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga. Mr Wetangula backed Odinga in the polls.
Two years ago, the two joined Raila Odinga. However, since Raila Odinga's decision to work with Uhuru, the two have expressed interest in 2022 race.
Last year, Mudavadi, who had since declared himself opposition chief, dismissed Khalwale, arguing that he had been in politics longer than him.
"I have been politics long enough to be lectured on what to do. Some people are hungry for money and will follow it everywhere," Mudavadi said.
