President Uhuru Kenyatta has asserted that the defence team will increase their operation in combating Al Shabaab detectives in the North Eastern and Coastal region which have been reported to have increased since December in terms of the attacks foreseen.
Speaking on Friday during a convention with security bosses in Mombasa, Uhuru asserted that the government will respond robustly by mounting the operation against the operatives and sleeper cells adding that the officers will be expected to use proactive measures in dealing with the attackers.
“We will respond robustly by mounting the operation against the operatives and sleeper cells especially in the North-Eastern and Coast. I also expect the officers to use proactive measures in dealing with the attackers,” Uhuru asserted.
He added that he will too deal with Al Shabaab sponsors and recruiters pinpointing at the business in contraband as one of the means used to fund the Al Shabaab group.
“Illegal deals fund Al Shabaab. I also expect more on dealing with the sponsors and the recruiters,” he posed.
Uhuru also asked the Government administrators and police to work together with local leaders in ensuring the fight against terror groups is achieved.
"Government administrators and police are to engage local politicians, religious and opinion leaders within vulnerable communities as a proactive strategy to deny terrorism entry points into radicalisation, especially of our youth," Uhuru concluded.
