Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has said the appointment of Mary Wambui as the chairperson of the National Employment Authority (NEA) is against the law.
Sakaja in a tweet said he was involved in drafting a law to create the NEA between 2013 and 2015 pointing out that he pushed for the law to focus on unemployment among the youths which are a major challenge in the country.
He noted that he had called the former Othaya MP and asked her to decline the appointment.
''There was a dream that informed the creation of the National Employment Authority. The appointment of Hon. Mary Wambui goes against the provisions of Section 10(2) of the NEA act. I have asked her to politely decline this appointment,'' said Sakaja in the tweet.
The Senator also said he has directed his lawyers to file a petition seeking to squash Wambui's appointment.
On Monday, the acting Treasury CS appointed Wambui as the head of NEA.
In a gazette notice, the CS said the appointment begins immediately and will run for three years.
The appointment caused an uproar among Kenyan youths and politicians who called on President Uhuru Kenyatta's intervention.
Wambui has however dismissed those saying she is unfit to hold the position because of her age and education background.
