Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has raised more questions over the ongoing Huduma Namba national registration exercise.
Kabogo wondered why the government hurried to roll out the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) programme instead of conducting it together with the upcoming National Population and Housing Census.
The former county boss observed that the country would have saved a lot of money if the two programmes were carried out concurrently.
The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government plans to spend Sh6 billion for NIIMS exercise while Sh18.5 billion has been budgeted for the August's census.
"Was just thinking aloud; why didn’t someone think of doing the Huduma Number and at the same time do the population census? Wouldn’t it save the much-needed cash for other very deserving development programs?" Kabogo tweeted on Wednesday.
The flamboyant politician made the comment a few hours after he challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to prioritise on initiating projects that improve livelihoods of Kenyans instead of 'unnecessary' ones such as NIIMS.
"Tell us how you will improve a common man’s life. This story about corruption, this story about Huduma Namba, all these stories...Kenyans are tired," Kabogo said during an interview on Citizen TV, Monday.
During the launch of the programme in Machakos last week, Uhuru said Huduma Namba was important in helping the government in national planning and service delivery.
