A former Mandera student who had been reported missing a few days ago has been allegedly picked up by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for questioning.
Ahmed Ali who was found in Wajir on Sunday was picked up by DCI officers on Tuesday morning for interrogation. Reports indicate that he is being held at a Mandera police station.
According to Ahmed's father Mzee Abdirahman Abdi, his son was picked by officers in plain clothes who identified themselves as detectives from DCI.
Mzee Abdi further revealed that his son had hardly reached home when the officers emerged from the blues, a thing that he said they might have been trailing him from Wajir.
"My son was today morning (Tuesday) picked by police who said they were taking him for questioning. They were in civilian," Ali's father said.
However, his biggest worry is now on the safety of his son who was visibly weak.
"I am very worried. I don't know if those people were really officers from the DCI," the worried father added.
He is now appealing for local leadership to take up the matter, fearing that his son might eventually be a victim of enforced police disappearance.
Cases of youths 'disappearing' on the hands of uniformed police officers have steadily been rising in the North Eastern region.
This has been attributed to the general view that youths from the region are colluding with terrorists to destabilise the country.
