A lady has opened up and shared with the public the horror-like-situation that saw her sold out to a man for only Sh5,000.

The 24-year-old Jacinta Wanjiku was sold to a man when she was only 14 years.

Speaking to Standard Digital in a recent interview on a show dubbed 'My Confession', Wanjiku said she grew up in Kakamega County in a family whose main source of income was brewing and selling alcohol, specifically busaa and chang'aa.

After completing her KCPE exams in 2009, her mother told her that she was to join a secondary school in Kiambu County, at her grandmother's place.

Wanjiku thinking that was an opportunity to move towards her dreams, she welcomed the news with open arms not knowing she had been handed to a man.

The mother instructed one of her chang'aa customers to take her to Kiambu and at this point, the mother had already received cash from the man.

However, the truth could come out when Wanjiku finally landed in Kiambu. After days of not talking to the man, he finally told the poor girl she had bought her for Sh5,000 and she was to be his wife.

"He confessed everything the following day, how she gave my mother Sh5,000 and the whole plan. I called my mother the same day in the evening but she provoked me, she said I was her child and had the right to do anything she wanted," she narrated.

Wanjiku was raped and ended up continuously bleeding for two months.

"First intimacy was terrible, it made me bleed for two months non-stop and when I told him about my situation he said he was broke," she noted.

Wanjiku tried to commit suicide a number of times but, fortunately, the poison could not harm her.

She moved on with her life after escaping from the 'rapist's home and she is now asking her mother to change and become loving and caring again.

The heartbreaking story has elicited mixed reactions, with others including lawyer Miguna Miguna blaming Women Reps for not fighting for less privileged women in the society.
