Calm has finally returned to the troubled Marakwet-Pokot border after weeks of gunfights that saw one General Service Unit (GSU) officer dead as local primary schools closed.
This follows a security meeting spearheaded by the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, together with other regional leaders from the security sector.
In a two-day meeting held on Friday and Saturday, the governor urged the locals to stop retaliatory attacks and give government security agencies a chance to perform their duties.
"These fights should stop immediately. Look, our kids have been out of school. Why can't we give our police officers time to do their job?" Tolgos posed.
Speaking during the meeting, Marakwet East Police boss Vincent Kitili ordered the reopening of schools that had been closed down as a result of the banditry attacks.
"The situation is now back to normal. All our schools should reopen as from Monday," Kitili said.
During the attacks, Liter Primary School was closed after parents picked their children their kids to as the fights intensified for the better part of Wednesday last week.
Amid the calmness, politicians have been urged to stop fanning the attacks and inciting locals to retaliatory missions.
