A witness in the murder case of businesswoman Monica Kimani on Wednesday told the High court that Jacque Maribe, a suspect, was not anywhere near the deceased's apartment on the night she was killed.
Appearing before Justice James Wakiaga, the witness, Chelagat Ruto, said that together with her friend she called Juliet, former Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, they spent the night Monica Kimani was killed at 40Forty Lounge in Westlands.
She said that she had been invited by Sonko to attend his show at Citizen TV and that she went with her friend, before meeting up with Jacque.
After Sonko finished his show, the witness told the court, they headed to 40Forty Lounge where they had drinks.
Chelangat added that another person, Joseph Irungu alias Jowie joined them at around 1 am the following day with his friend.
She noted that she met Jacque in 2017, and became friends.
“Jacque later in 2017, introduced her partner, Jowie, to me,” Chelagat said as quoted by K24.
“On that day, I went to Road House restaurant on Dennis Pritt Road at 6:30pm. I met my friend Juliet. At the same restaurant, there was Jowie and his male friend, whom I would describe as a tall and dark-complexioned man,” Chelagat added.
Monica Kimani was murdered at her house in Kilimani Estate, Nairobi, on November 27, 2018.
Another witness had revealed to the court that Jowie was the last person to be with Monica Kimani before her death.
On Wednesday, a government pathologist told the court that Jowie's DNA was not on the white straps that were used to tie the late Monica Kimani.
Jowie and Jacque Maribe are key suspects in the murder of the business lady.
Jowie who is still in prison has on two occasions unsuccessfully tried to secure his release on bail.
Maribe was however granted bail.
