Residents in Garissa County now have a reason to smile following the revamping of the county hospital.
This is after the government, through the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) announced that the Garissa County Hospital can now offer Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services, dialysis for kidney patients and even radiology services.
"Patients at the Garissa County Hospital can now access modern medical services including ICU, theatre, dialysis and radiology after the installation of modern facilities delivered under the Managed Equipment Services. The hospital serves the larger North Eastern region," reads a statement by the PDU.
This comes as the county government, in another statement, revealed that it had secured a highly rated machine, Cobas C111, which is expected to serve patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, liver failure among other lifestyle ailments.
The sophisticated machine will be stationed at the referral hospital.
The national government is seeking to achieve universal health care coverage, as part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda.
