"We mourn with the family and friends who have lost their kin following the tragic collapse of an 8-storey building in Malindi earlier today.
We also wish a quick recovery to the injured - our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief.
I wish to thank the Kilifi County Disaster team, the Kenya Red Cross, the Kenya Defense Forces and the good people of Malindi for their outstanding efforts to rescue and evacuate the victims on time and minimize damage.
My administration will offer full time assistance now and in the days to follow. We will do a thorough review so that we can all understand how this tragedy happened.
I have instructed my officers to move with speed to ensure all illegal construction is halted and unsafe buildings demolished to prevent further loss of life and property."
