The family of the slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure the killers are brought to book with immediate effect.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Sharon's mother, Ms Melida Auma asked the head of state to intervene in the investigations of her daughter’s death after her body discovered in Kodera Forest in Homa Bay County on Monday last week.
The family, which is expected to bury the unborn child, said that it is hopeful that the truth will come out before the deceased is also laid to rest.
“It is my humble request to President Uhuru to look into this issue so that the truth is known,” said Ms Auma.
The family’s hope that their daughter, a second-year student, completes her education to assist her siblings ended when they learned about her brutal murder two days after she went missing.
Her father, Mr Douglas Otieno, also pleaded with the probing team to speed up the process before they can make burial arrangements for the daughter.
A post mortem examination on Friday revealed that the deceased was stabbed eight times, strangled and raped before her demise.
Governor Okoth Obado’s Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo, a key suspect in the murder case, allegedly lured Sharon and Nation Journalist Barack Oduor out of Graca Hotel in Rongo around before she was found dead.
Oyamo, who is being held by police, has, however, denied plotting the murder of the student.
Obado has also been grilled over the death. The governor called for a speedy probe into the matter, and denied behind the killing of the woman she confessed was her lover.
