One prisoner has lost his life while several people sustained serious injuries after a tragic accident involving an Embu police vehicle.

The accident happened on Tuesday near Thuci river where the police land cruiser veered off the road after the driver was unable to control it.

Among those who got injured include seven prison warders who had been tasked with escorting the inmates to court.

Eight other inmates in the vehicle who were being ferried to Meru sustained injuries.

A video posted on Facebook by Daily Nation showed prisoners' belongings scattered on the accident scene as residents thronged to see what had transpired.

A prison police officer is also seen manning the overturned vehicle to keep away the crowd from accessing the scene.

By the time of the reporting, the vehicle had not been towed from the accident scene. 

This incident comes just a day after four KDF officers lost their lives in an accident along Meru-Isiolo highway.

The accident happened after the driver of the police vehicle lost control and hit an incoming private car. The officers died on the spot while the occupants of the small car sustained injuries.

Those injured, a man his wife and two children are receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
