US President Donald Trump has honored a special dog that played key roles in the killing of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The dog whose real name had earlier been hidden, was on Monday introduced to the White House press corps in the Rose Garden by President Trump, who was accompanied by his Vice, Mike Pence and first lady Melania Trump.
Trump introduced the dog as 'Conan' before he showered it with all kinds of praises for the job it did in hunting down their target, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Conan was then awarded with a certificate.
"Conan did a fantastic job. And we're very honored to have Conan here, we've given Conan a certificate and an award that we'll put up in the White House," Trump told reporters as quoted by CBS News.
What looks like the World's most famous dog, the Belgian Malinois breed was “slightly wounded” during the raid and had to be treated before being honored.
Earlier, the dog's name had been considered classified even after its face and picture had been declassified.
"We have declassified a picture of the wonderful dog (name not declassified) that did such a GREAT JOB in capturing and killing the Leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi!" read Trump's tweet.
Controversy has been raised around the dog, with sources from the White House giving contradicting information.
Trump had introduced the dog as a 'good boy' before a White House official confirmed that it was a female dog.
Another controversy was around the US President's rewarding the dog regardless of his reported hatred for dogs.
When the ISIS leader was killed, Trump said he 'died like a dog', which was perceived to be his signs of hating dogs.
“He was a sick and depraved man, and now he’s gone. He died like a dog, he died like a coward," Trump had said.
