Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has said that anyone or any political formation is free to challenge Deputy President William Ruto for the presidency in the 2022 polls.
Already, the DP has made clear his intentions to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected to retire in 2022, having done his two constitutional terms.
But in the response of the said emergence of a team of political brokers out to crush the DP's dream, dubbed the 'Super Six', the close Ruto associate dared the team to bring it on.
He told the Star on Monday that the DP's team has no issues with having competition, as long as the playing field is level, adding they too will be forming alliances at the right time.
“All we want is a level playing field. We have no issues with anybody running for President. We will also be forming our team but ultimately, it is Kenyans who will decide,” Kositany said.
This comes at a time when the DP seems to be having a hard time rallying the entire populous Mt Kenya region behind his bid, owing to erupting questions on his political moves.
A section of Kikuyu leaders is now questioning his tact of hosting delegations of Kikuyu leaders in his home, accusing him of attempting to buy the region over.
"When you tell people they will be given money, they will definitely come. The Deputy President should, however, remember that you can rent a Kikuyu but you can’t buy one,” said GEMA Secretary-General Peter Munga.
Munga, who spoke at a meeting in Ruaka, Kiambu on Monday, was referring to a delegation of GEMA members who were hosted by the DP at his Sugoi home on Thursday.
