Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna now says he saved National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga’s political career by ensuring he was sworn in as the people’s president on January 30.
Miguna, who was deported to Canada by the government for administering the oath taken by Odinga, said on Tuesday that the former prime minister’s swearing-in ensured he remained relevant in Kenyan politics.
The self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general made the remarks during an interview with The Newsmakers on Tuesday.
“You ignore Miguna at your own peril…the youth in Kenya are not going to ignore me, they listen to me. The only person that validated Raila Odinga’s victory, the only person that protected Odinga from being relegated to the dustbin of history, had he not been sworn in, today we would have been singing at Raila Odinga’s funeral," Miguna said.
“Because of my courage and what I did, Raila Odinga has a lifeline politically, so there is no way anyone is going to ignore me. I will not allow it, and NRM will not allow it,” he added.
Miguna’s remarks follow Odinga’s request to NASA supporters to ignore his claims that Nasa CEO Norman Magaya and strategist David Ndii are secretly working with the Jubilee Party.
Miguna, in a statement last week, alleged that the duo was trying to sabotage NRM activities.
The outspoken lawyer said that Magaya had vowed to revenge against Odinga after he was 'denied' the EALA nomination.
"Norman Magaya is actively working for Jubilee. He took Kshs. 30m to withdraw the petition against Sonko in retaliation for his failed nomination to EALA. He had vowed to “revenge against Raila” after that. H.E. Raila Odinga himself told me about it," he wrote on Facebook.
Miguna said that Ndii was opposed to the swearing in of Odinga, claims the economist denied.
"Ndii opposed the swearing in and threatened to lead a walkout from NASA of Kalonzo et al. Ndii shouted at me and made the threatens in person. Now that their schemes have flopped, they have conspired to sabotage the NRMKe. We shall not permit it! The truth will set you free!" said Miguna.
