Families of two victims of the Lake Nakuru chopper crash were on February 10 forced to conduct a 'lake burial' for their loved ones after efforts to recover bodies were futile.

John Ndirangu alias Mapozi and Sam Gitau were among five people aboard a chopper that crashed into the lake early morning on October 21.

The chopper had taken off from the nearby Jarika lodge where it had been parked the night before.

Other on board were pilot Apollo Malowa, Anthony Kipyegon, and Veronica Muthoni.

The three bodies were recovered. As families, friends and political leaders gathered at the lake for a farewell memorial service, the pain of not giving her son a decent send off was written on the face of Florence Nyambura.

Nyambura is the mother of John Mapozi.

"I am not at peace until I give my son a decent send-off," she once told this writer. Find the story here.

But as the memorial service went on, families wondered why a DNA on several body parts found on the shores of the lake during the recovery mission had not been done.

Nyambura believes the parts belong to her son and she would be totally at peace if she buried them.

A warden at the Lake Nakuru National Park, who preferred anonymity, confirmed there were parts collected.

"There were parts taken to the mortuary. We think wild animals might have pulled a body to the shores and mauled it. Maybe they run with other parts in the deep thickets," he said.

The matter, the warden warned, is however very sensitive.

"Other journalists know about all this but nobody is asking questions. Ask yourself why?" he said.

In South Africa, news broke out on February 12 that lions had eaten a suspected poacher only leaving a few parts of the body.

Could there be a possibility our two sons were eaten by lions at the park?

And if that is the case, why are families taken into rounds over the body parts collected at the park?

A report on the chopper crash is also yet to be made public!

Are there efforts to cover up anything?
