The nation was on Monday thrown into a state of confusion as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned four Cabinet Secretaries from Mt Kenya region for allegedly planning to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
The four Cabinet Secretaries including Joe Mucheru, Sicily Kariuki, James Macharia and Peter Munya were to record their statements at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu road.
The assassination allegations now pose a critical integrity question that, has Kenyan politics degenerated to a death trap?
DP Ruto is not the first Kenyan politician to claim that his life was in danger. Barely a year ago, EALA MP Simon Mbugua claimed that his life was in big danger.
The vocal MP revealed that his decision to offer support to Deputy President William Ruto ahead of 2022 succession politics was behind the death threats on his life.
Again, flamboyant Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa has once expressed that specific individuals were planning to eliminate him over his political stand. MP Ichungwa alleged that some strange faces had been trailing him in the build-up to the 2017 general election.
Amid the death threats, several Kenyan politicians including former Kabete MP George Muchai and George Thuo mysteriously died with the faces of their killers still remains a riddle.
In light of these, state security agencies should reign in and probe all death threats directed at top politicians in the country.
