Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi’s directive on the suspended county officials resuming work has received mixed reactions from different factions.
It has now emerged that more than 70 Members of the County Assembly have opposed the directive of the speaker on the matter, Capital FM reports.
Led by Majority Leader Charles Thuo, the leaders on Thursday said that they are strongly objected to the call for the officials to resume work when they are still facing graft cases.
The MCAs said that the officials will not be allowed to take advantage of the perceived leadership crisis to resume their duties.
“Anyone who has been mentioned in corruption must face the law for them to go back to work. We are telling the County Public Service Board that they must be very careful if anyone comes to them saying that Speaker told them to return to work despite being corrupt, they must not listen to them because we are going to deal with them,” said Thuo, according to Capital FM.
The suspended CECs who are set to resume work, if Elachi's order will be followed are Charles Kerich (Finance) and Mohamed Dagane (Health).
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko suspended the two officials together with 14 others after a school in Dagoreti, collapsed killing 7 pupils.
Elachi had on Tuesday ordered all suspended county workers to resume work with immediate effect.
