A section of Migosi residents in Kisumu County now has a reason to smile, after the road that runs from Ezra Gumbe Primary School to Mamboleo showground was repaired. The road which serves most of the Migosi and Mamboleo area is classified under informal settlement roads.
The road was characterized by numerous potholes, making it impassable, especially on rainy days. But things have changed since the issue was highlighted by Hivisasa a month ago.
Locals led by Kepha Masinde appealed to the county government to move with speed and rehabilitated the road which serves most of the Migosi area.
After his plea, Migosi Ward MCA Victor Rodgers Ochieng' said the road had been earmarked for construction under the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project (KISIP).
“We are privileged that KISIP did come on board and approved the construction of that road. It is in their budget that they are doing that road,” Ochieng' added.
Speaking to Hivisasa on Monday, Masinde confirmed that the MCA kept his word after the contractor managed to clear the drainage as well as filling up the potholes.
“Recently, a BSI Company tractor came on the ground and opened a terrace all the way from Ezra Gumbe Primary School to a stream that leads its waters into river Auji,” Masinde told Hivisasa on phone.
He said that the repair of the road has brought a big relief to area residents.
“Previously, water used to clog the road making it difficult for road users ranging from motorbike operators to pedestrians. But now, it is not easy for water to block the road when it rains,” Masinde said.
Since the rehabilitation, the road has been accessible amid the heavy rains in Kisumu.
However, he appealed to the county to upgrade the road using murram to improve accessibility.
KISIP is a body established by the government to upgrade informal settlements across the country. KISIP invests in infrastructure and service delivery.
